...Abstraction is a hard concept to understand, and I believe the concept all together is ignored in many schools. We're taught this is algebra, and this is how you use it, but we're never taught why we use it, or what makes it so useful. "Why" is a very important question. I believe understanding the "whys" of math is the key to both using it effectively, and retaining the information.
