I believe students should be confident in their math skills. By getting good grades in school, their options in life (i.e., jobs, career paths) are kept open. I gauge where the student is at in knowing the concepts by having him work out the problems.

...After those concepts are mastered partial differentiation, multivariate integration, differential equations and differential operators are added. Calculus requires strong math skills in foundational math up through the level of trigonometry, and any holes or weaknesses in those areas need to be addressed.
